Most would agree they had a good run. Rising out of the turmoil of Ian Curtis’ suicide, the remaining members of Joy Division and new guitarist Gillian Gilbert eventually surpassed Joy Division in fame as they crafted a admixture of dance music and post-punk that was quintessentially 80s.
This isn’t the first time the world has had to make due with New Order – they went on hiatus between 1993 and 1998 – but according to bassist Peter Hook, the band has split for good.
