American Idol runner up Adam Lambert officially came out in Rolling Stone this month. Of course his sexuality has been assumed by the public since we first saw him on Idol, but we thought the same thing about Clay Aiken and it took him years to build up the nerve.
As a gay man I always feel a sense of strength when a celebrity officially comes out, and while plenty of my favorite artists and actors show support for gay rights and the gay community, it’s also nice to get a few members of the Rainbow Team out there.
Says Lambert, “I don’t want to be looking over my shoulder all the time, thinking I have to hide, being scared of being found out, putting on a front, having a beard, going down the red carpet with some chick who is posing as my girlfriend. That’s not cool, that’s not being a rock star. I can’t do that.”
You go gurl!
