There are a lot of excuses people like to use on why gay marriage should not be allowed and why it should only be between a man and a woman. One of these excuses vies for the necessity of procreation, which is impossible for gay couples since they are incompatible for the deed. These people only want men and women to have the privilege of marriage because only they can successfully prolong the human species by creating more of us.
Well, that is wrong, obviously, because there are plenty of infertile straight women who can’t do that, who may be married, and may have to adopt or find a surrogate womb. There are also couples who marry because they care about each other who have no intention of having children, people who are happy with just being together and nothing more. These childless couples open the doorway for gay couples, because it proves that marriage is not always about having children and that a lot of the time getting married is just about being recognized by the state or government that you are legally bound to each other, and have access to the numerous perks of such.
This is exactly what Alec Baldwin talked about in his op-ed at the Huffington Post last week, and exactly what everyone needs to realize. Giving complete marriage rights to gay couples shouldn’t be about sex or gender, and it definitely shouldn’t be about children. It’s about having an unconditional love for someone, and wanting to get married. Is that so wrong?
