I have a bone to pick with advertising. I am a great lover of commercials, but lately, I feel like there has been less clever marketing and more of a constant pushing of what will probably become the signature slogan of the “great recession.” Have you heard it? Now, more than ever, you need companies to tell you to buy crap you don’t need. You need a new car now, more than ever. You need to buy your family hamburgers now, more than ever. You need a laundry detergent that will do more loads per $15 bottle now, more than ever.
I have a drinking game to start playing now, more than ever.
Turn on your TV. Have the drinks ready. Gather around when the commercials come on, and take a drink each time you hear a spokesman say “Now, more than ever.” I just heard the slogan dropped three times back to back during a single commercial break. If you want a good way to get truly smashed, now, more than ever, grab your remote, pour the booze, and get watching.
