Bees can be pretty smart little buggers, especially when it comes to constructing their little honeycomb matriarch society And despite knowing that honey is essentially made form pollen and bee saliva, I still like putting it on my toast.
But take a gander at this series of photos, where someone cuts a hole in the top of a small hive in their backyard, puts a bell jar over it, and witnesses as the bees make an extensive of the hive inside the bell jar. It’s really amazing, especially if you notice (as someone noted in the comments of the article) that the sections they make are evenly spaced out. Sometimes I just get a kick out of the natural instincts of animals and insects; things they do not necessarily because they want to but because it’s something that they know needs to be done.
Bees are alright with me. I don’t freak out when one comes near me, I just stay still if possible or keep walking if I’m outside and hope they lose interest. The last personal encounter I had with a bee was twelve years ago and it stung the inside of my lip- by crawling into my Pepsi can that I had left unattended carelessly while out on a farm, then taking a swig of it unknowingly and getting a very nasty surprise.
