How good are Governor Rod Blagojevich’s chances of escaping the Illinois Senate chopping block? Roughly the same as another exceedingly corrupt politician, onetime Louisiana Governor/Senator Huey Long, had of surviving his assassination. Which is to say, Blago’s outlook is dire enough that his own legal team of Edward Genson, Sam Adam and Sam Adam, Jr., the men who it is surmised are paid through donations to the Guv from the crippled, cancer-ridden orphan children he’s made his life’s work of defending, the men who were hired to fight to the last for their client, no matter how hopeless their cause may seem… won’t be showing up to the impeachment proceedings. I’m sure there’s an excerpt of a poem by John Keats that sums up his situation aptly, and that Blagojevich will no doubt read aloud as he represents himself against a room full of adversarial lawmakers.
