As Ryan Jovian mentioned, earlier today the good people at Disney became the owner of Marvel Comics.
The transaction is said to include Disney and Marvel stock leading up to but not exceeding 40 percent of the fee, the remaining percent would be spent in cash. Marvel Shareholders would receive 30 dollars for each share, and an additional estimated 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share. The total accumulated transaction is estimated at $4 billion.
Disney will receive the rights to Marvel and it’s roster of over 5,000 characters, and I’m sure they’ll put them to quick use. It’ll be interesting on our next visit to Disneyland. We’ll get to see Snow White and the Invisible Woman all at once.
Unlike Ryan, I think this will be a positive change becase Disney shouldn’t be expected to convert Marvel into their usual assortment of good-natured characters, at least I hope not. Marvel will give Disney just the edge they’d been looking for to break into the trendy boys’ and young mens’ demographic. They’ve got the girls’ demographic on lockdown with the six princesses, and with the upcoming seventh princess, they’ll attract an even more diverse audience of girls.
I believe our beloved characters will be safe from too much change, but it still seems a little weird. It almost seems like two Universes have collided unexpectedly. I wonder if the Disney Hercules will get along with the Marvel Hercules. Will Belle’s Beast bond with Xavier’s Beast? What’s Donald Duck going to think about Howard? Awkward!
