Eight days until the Iowa caucus. Thirteen until New Hampshire’s primary. Endorsements are being shot into the fray like cannonballs, their intention to help as much as to harm. The stakes are high, and their voters predictably unpredictable. With time running out, candidates have kicked their campaigns into high gear. It’s politics at the speed of light, but do try and keep up:
The Smiler and the Huckster have ratcheted up the most newspaper endorsements in the Tall Corn State. Meanwhile, The New Hampshire Union-Leader rediscovers John McCain’s electability, abhors Romney. Christian Soldier Huckabee is making some in his own party nervous. Third place in the Democratic race, John Edwards is going door-to-door in hopes of improving his fortunes. Ron Paul is gaining political traction, moving up to 10% in Iowa. Rudolph Giuliani wants people to know that he doesn’t have cancer and still is technically in the race. Fred Thompson is also experiencing visibility problems. Hillary Clinton may have stemmed her decline in polls, and her presidency is so inevitable her voters don’t even have to show up on the right day. Even the corn-fed caucusers who do show up on the 3rd may have no idea what they’re voting for.
It really restores your faith in democracy, doesn’t it?
