Comic book writer Geoff Johns is spearheading the series called Blackest Night, an epic eight part series (nine if you count the prequel) that stars multiple members of the DC family.
Johns, who is currently writing the Green Lantern comic series, introduces the heroes of DC to an elaborate concept that deals with the Lanterns. He utilizes a spectrum of emotion relating to light when writing Blackest Night. The spectrum includes red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The corresponding emotions for those colors are rage, avarice, fear, willpower, hope, compassion, and love, respectively. The colors and their emotional equivalents really explain the relationships that Johns has set up with the characters.
The basic premise of the story involves characters from the DC universe that had previously died, having been resurrected by Black Hand. These characters often face off against their arch nemeses who are very surprised to find their opponents alive, or at least animated.
The obvious attraction of resurrecting fallen characters is that fans now have the opportunity to once again see their favorite heroes in action. Johns himself admitted to appreciating the lesser knows stars of the universe, and under this series, we will be seeing a lot of subtly familiar faces. He announced, “Even Vibe is coming back, if anyone knows who Vibe is. He’s a badass.”
Regarding his contribution to the Green Lantern series, Johns praised the fans for having followed for this long. “It’s great to see Green Lantern grow,” He said. “It’s great to be a Green Lantern fan.”
When asked by a fan about his shelf life with Green Lantern, Johns replied, “We’re staying on Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps for a long, long time.”
The final question from the audience pertained to the famous Green Lantern oath, and Johns was so excited from the matter of the question that he commanded us all to rise and recite the oath together. And, like the nerd mass that we were, we raised our fist in the air and recited, “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape our sight. Let those who worship evil’s might, beware our power, Green Lantern’s light!”
