Two different stories disturbed me today with their unnerving parallels to Nazi Germany. One story discusses a plan in Eagle County, Colorado, to recruit and pay people to snitch out fellow criminals, bringing to mind the money that was paid out to German citizens for turning in Jews in hiding. Our second story involves California’s Tent City residents being given wristbands in order to enter the slums they’ve come to call home… where have I heard this one before? Oh! I know! The Star of David patches Jews were forced to wear in order to enter and exit the ghettos! Yeah… they were told it was for “safety reasons.” It was just like living in a gated community. Only Jews could come in.
The wristbands aren’t supposed to single anyone out, or make them easier to trace. It’s to keep everyone safe, and ensure that only Ontario residents are living there, and that no one else is mooching off the government… right?
At what point will the need for security or a quick buck result in people being thrown into internment camps?
London’s G-20 protests are starting to turn into riots, with people breaking into the Royal Bank of Scotland, smashing windows with stolen keyboards and forcing local shops to consider locking down for the day. They’re so upset over the bailouts of British banks that their protests look like they’re going to last for days. But for all that’s happening in the US, why is America still so quiet?
