Unfortunately for our country, no one seems to take president Obama’s stated desire for real bipartisanship more seriously than president Obama himself. Per Mark Ambinder:
The White House and Senate Democrats won’t buckle to demands from liberals that they revise their health care strategy, officials said today. White House advisers and Democratic strategists concede that President Obama’s poll numbers are at post-inauguration lows, and that the public has grown queasy about the health care debate. But they insist that the discontent has its roots in disenchantment over Washington’s ways. They note that large majorities of voters disapprove of how Republicans are handling health care in Congress and that President Obama remains the most popular active politician in the country.
Are Obama’s political political opponents stoking a demonstrably false theory that he wasn’t born in the country he runs? Obama says “Let’s make a deal.” Are they pushing the insane idea the health care reform legislation he supports allows for surreptitious granny killing tribunals? Obama says “Let’s make a deal.” Are they winking at fringe crazies who bring assault rifles to the vicinity of his town hall meetings and quote Thomas Jefferson out of context to justify their own hatred of him and what he represents? Obama says “Let’s make a deal.” Are they now formenting a bloody revolution by calling for Obama and his family’s public execution for crimes against “Real America”? Obama says… well, you get the idea.
