Dresden Dolls frontwoman Amanda Palmer got ran over by a car in Northern Ireland a few days ago while she was on tour for her new solo album Who Killed Amanda Palmer?, sustaining minor injuries on her right foot.
I have been an absolutely horrible Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer fan because I haven’t written anything about her new solo album… And I didn’t write anything about The Dresden Dolls third full length album No, Virginia. But because a No, Virginia review would be outdated now, I’ll offer my thoughts on Who Killed Amanda Palmer?
This album was one of the most critically anticipated albums of the year, and it TOTALLY fucking delivered. Amanda is such a wonderful girl that she released an electronic version of the album for anyone who pre-ordered the album, so they didn’t have to wait for the official release date to listen to it. And, of course, I got it the first day I could, and have been playing it continuously since then.
Who Killed Amanda Palmer? is fantastic. It’s full of raw emotion, memory, and experience in music. The lyrics are completely relate-able, and has that sound that only Amanda Palmer can produce. Most of the songs on the album are in ballad format, but there are total hard rocking songs in the mix as well. Oasis, a song featuring Ben Folds and Jared Reynolds, is one now one of my all time favorite songs, along with one of the singles The Point Of It All.
Amanda, being the wonderful neurotic person that she is, put out four different singles, along with the videos, before the album even came out. Since then she’s released three other videos and has another planned.
She really is wonderful. And oh so stylish.
I highly recommend picking up Who Killed Amanda Palmer?. And if you are lucky enough to have her tour flow through your town, be sure to snatch up a ticket. Sadly, I have to wait until December to see her… for what? The 6th time? She really is worth it.
