A newcomer in the long, proud tradition of creating “art” out of your various bodily fluids, Blood Art is a community of girls who are using their menstrual blood to commune with the Goddess and creep the hell out of the rest of us.
After about three seconds on the Livejournal site, i had a horrified look on my face that no amount of time on cuteoverload.com could wipe off. There’s something deeply, deeply wrong with these women. Besides being an art forum, Blood Art is a place where womyn’s studies majors can come together and discuss the unique difficulties their chosen medium poses, like:
“i recently started collecting the blood in a big jar, so i can do i big painting (or a series of little ones). HOWEVER, it’s been a month since i started. And since i started a new cycle today, i opened the jar to add more… and it smelled SO, SO BAD. I mean, it was horrendous. The smell filled my room within a few seconds. I was wondering if this was normal? Or is it because i used a jar that formerly contained chopped garlic?”
or discuss technique:
“today I made my first attempt at a menstural painting. I am happy with it, though I think the next one will be even better as I get used to the consistency and behavior of the blood.
I just used watercolor paper and bought a special set of watercolor brushes just for this. What do the rest of you use for materials? I found myself weeping quite forcefully a couple nights ago in one of those really healthy, purging cries. So I also added some tears to the blood, which made it even more meaningful to do this.”
With so much emotion going into these paintings, you’d think they’d be really something. Sadly, you’d be wrong if you thought that. If, on the other hand, you thought it would look more like Sammy the abstract dog artist got into the trash during that special time of the month and dragged used Kotex all over the bathroom floor…

I’m totally inspired. I’m going to take all the vomit I threw up while looking at this crap and make spin-art out of it.
