Do you know what John McCain, who continues to lag behind in the polls and is unable to shake the characterization that he voted with the Bush administration 90% of the time, needs the weekend before the general election? He needs Dick Cheney. Cheney, probably about as popular a politician as the pharaoh was with the enslaved Hebrew people, endorsed McCain on Saturday, once more reminding a hurting electorate that the Senator for Arizona may not have the charisma of a young Barack Obama, but what he lacks in flash, he makes up for in not prosecuting the Bush administration for any crimes they may have committed.
In what may actually be a first, it was actually George W. Bush who had the decency to go into hiding until things die down. In his undisclosed location, unlike Cheney’s, there is no Machiavellian plotting and malevolent cackling – only ping pong and doughnuts.
