BBC is promoting safe sex in India via a very catchy acapella condom song! Have a listen.
I’ve always been a fan of acapella music and discovering a ringtone that not only utilizes the vocal music style but also educates is fantastic. India needs this type of endorsement so as to cull the worrysome number of 2.5 million people living with HIV. Also it’s a tune not to be ashamed of, unlike people with loud pop tunes as their ring tones that reverberate in your ears long after they’re turned off, singer Vijay Prakash’s voice rings melodic and pleasant.
The theme of the campy condom campaign is called Jo Samjha Wohi Sikander, meaning “the one who understands is a winner”. It endorses the idea that people who use condoms are winners in life, which is a nice psychology to implement in a situation like India’s.
The commercial is also fun to watch and proves that humour is an excellent tool in conveying a serious message. Go India! I salute the country that brought me the joyous wonder of Tunak Tunak and the Indian version of Thriller known as Golimar.
