From Vallejo, California comes a classic case of just not getting it. Samuel Botchvaroff was due in court to defend himself against grand theft auto charges, but because his own car had been impounded, he didn’t have a ride to the courthouse.
It would be bad form not to show up to such a legally important event, so Botchvaroff did what anyone faced with a major stumbling block like that would do. He called a taxi. He asked his mom for a ride. He asked a friend for a ride. He took the bus. He hitchhiked to the courthouse. He called the court to notify them that he was physically unable to attend unless they could provide transportation ahead of the court date. He stole a car, and drove it to his arraignment.
It didn’t take the authorities long to locate the missing vehicle (it was, after all, right under their noses), and after Mr. Botchvaroff had finished his face time with a judge, he was taken into custody. Far be it for me to play legal scholar, but I don’t think Sammy’s case is looking too good right now.
