Some ten months into the administration of President Barack Obama, I find myself reflecting on the past and how much I miss our good friend and fallen comrade George W Bush. I’ve been pondering these reasons for quite some time, and believe that I may be on to something here when it comes to my dissatisfaction with the Obama Administration. So, if you will, take a moment with me while I compile a list of musings about the current administration and nostalgia for the past.
Remember, if you can, when opposition to the policies of the Bush administration meant that you were hip, well informed, and dare I say part of the cool kid crew? What ever happened to the edge that being the opposition had? Now the former opposition has become rather complacent and the opposition to the current administration is kind of bland, old and conservative white men whining about something or other and not being down with the change, or something like that. Or, it could be much worse, the opposition simply doesn’t like black people, or so we would be lead to believe by certain vocal supporters of the current administration. During the Bush administration the opposition was so cool and hip, even if they were characterized as weak, limp wrist appeasers, or as anti-American terrorist sympathizers by supporters of the previous administration. But now the opposition is either out of touch, missed the change train, or is just racist. Frankly, I think that it is sort of lame and unamusing that the opposition has gone from anti-American terrorist loving whores who hate freedom to Archie Bunker.
Secondly, remember when human rights, freedom and the constitution mattered? I do. I recall our old friend and Decider being ambushed, abused and lambasted by his critics on a nightly basis for destroying the country, shredding the constitution, stealing our freedoms and erecting a police state. Granted he did do all that, and was taken to the woodshed for doing so. However, last time I checked President Obama wasn’t in the Library of congress with a roll of scotch type trying to put the constitution back together again. Thus far, none of the freedom killing policies of the former administration have been repealed or reversed by the current administration. We still have the Patriot act, we still have warrantless wiretaps and domestic spying, prisoners in GITMO and various other secret hell holes, we are still blowing up weddings in Pakistan and Afghanistan, we still have the no-fly list and TSA asking people to take off their shoes while I walk to the front of the line and snicker. Overall, there hasn’t been much change as the mechanisms of the unilateral decidership, or simply put dictatorship, are still in place and President Obama is not being called on it at all. Granted he may be busy decorating the White House, but he has had to have noticed Cheney’s throne of skulls by now! Unless he is going to sit in it and reign as Immortal God-emperor of Mankind… or Khorne, then it is about time he is called on to straighten the place up.
Also, the former President was a goofy character, and was an endless source of amusement for all. Laughs were had by all on a daily basis due to George W Bush’s quirks and lovable foibles as they were pointed out in the media in between the daily tongue lashings he received by the media. President Obama however seems to have a cleverly constructed and packaged too-cool image, and in addition, I think people are letting him slide on being rather goofy looking himself.
In addition, The former President’s daughters were of age, and rather attractive, and as such they were frequently the subjects of conversations about their attractiveness or unattractiveness, or what one would do to them when they were drunk, ect. The current President’s daughters… not so much, well unless you’re a filthy kiddie-toucher, in which case I hope you’re brought to justice.
Last, but certainly not least there is the issue of Dick-motherfucking-Cheney. When was the last time a Vice-President shot a man in the face and got away with it? Probably not since Teddy Roosevelt. Cheney was at one time the embodiment of all evil and source of all the nefarious schemes of the Bush administration and was the corner stone of much criticism of the administration. Also, he lived in a bunker and had to be kept alive by infernal machines designed by the denizens of Niflheim, black magic and daily bucketfuls of fish heads. Thus far, the closest thing to a super villain that the Obama administration has is Rham Emanuel, who despite being a surly SOB, all around prick and master manipulator, is not the embodiment of the nightmares of children.
So, there you have a short collection of my many musings of things I miss about the Bush administration. It is by no means a complete collection, but perhaps will act as a catalyst to reflect more deeply about the current administration and those of the past for the betterment of judgment and sake the nation.
