Now that the big media conventions, E3 and SDCC, have passed we all have lots of news to deal with and process. But let me for a moment share with you the sequels that I am most looking forward to. There may or may not be spoilers.

First up of course is Assassin’s Creed 2. This follow-up to the Crusades-oriented first game is based centuries later in Italy during the Renaissance years. This time we are following the ‘career’ of Enzio and not only are we going to have the sequel to flesh out more about these assassins’ descendant Desmond, but Ubisoft has also approved for Hybride Technologies to create a series of short films based on the sequel. This is good news for fans of the original because it will hopefully shed some more light on these nimble and mysterious characters from the past.

Although there hasn’t been much else breathed about this in particular, it has at least been confirmed at Comic-Con (by Top Cow) that a sequel to the unique shooter The Darkness is underway. However, Starbreeze, the original studio, won’t have a hand in the creation of the second game this time around and instead 2K will be getting someone else to work on developing the next installment. I really enjoyed the first game, the voice acting was very well done and Mike Patton’s voice for the Darkness entity sent shivers down my spine. No word if he will reprise his role for the sequel, but I really couldn’t imagine anyone else doing that depraved little voice after hearing Patton. Hopefully they will fix some of the bugs dealing with some of the Darkness powers that were somewhat frustrating in the original.

And I can’t have a sequels post without of course mentioning Bioshock 2. A return to Rapture is in store for us but this trip we will be a Big Daddy, for real this time. I expect more psychological jerking around and M. Knight Shyamalan-like twists, as well as gorgeous scenery and environments. Although a story taking place on land would have also been intriguing (somewhat implied by one of their posters of a girl standing on a shore), it will also be nice to see what other secrets Fontaine has been keeping from us even after what happened at the end of the first one.
Future sequels I am keeping an eye out for release in the US are for Prey, Mirror’s Edge, Fallout (confirmed as New Vegas), Diablo III, and at some point in 2010 the next Elder Scrolls.
