Michael Steele is resigning! Just not the Michael Steele Republicans wish would step down from the RNC, saving them the trouble of having to make a scene of things. Such as it is, though, the GOP establishment is through asking him nicely.
Good ol’ boy and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour made a point of putting forward a plan to give Steele that final push out the door during a meeting of the Republican Governor’s Association. Other governors are maneuvering to get own picks for competent Steele replacements to the front of an ever-growing line.
Back in offices of the RNC, a battered and beleaguered Steele is discovering exactly who his friends are. That is to say, no one.
