The fringe having refined their anti-health care argument to screaming “Heil Hitler!” at a Jewish man praising Israel’s national health care system, the conservative backlash has created a backlash of its own. Pro-reform groups are outnumbering bussed-in kooks and cranks at town hall meetings. The AFL-CIO is turning the screws on Democratic politicians, threatening to sit out the next election if the public option goes off the table. Perhaps sensing the quandry they’re now in, Dems are vowing to fight for a more substantive bill – with or without Obama.
