Pope Benny makes a visit.
Yesterday Pope Benedict XVI ended his first visit to the United States. One of the many messages he brought to this side of the ocean was his insistence on the improvement of equal rights.
The Vatican expressed concern over the treatment of Saddam Hussein during the former dictator’s trial and execution, calling it “tragic and reason for sadness.†Following the hanging of Hussein the pope insisted that people cannot be treated as objects. During his audience with the U.N., he stressed a revision of our outlook on human rights was what the world needed most.
This comes from the same man who sees gay adoption as a form of violence against children.
I understand that he’s the Pope, and that he can’t suddenly swing the church from right to left. Having said that, it’s 2008 and the world is changing. If the church wants to stay relevant to the world, then it has to change with it. Let’s hope that the Pope, who not surprisingly has decried homosexuals as unnatural, takes his own advice and learns to respect all of us.
