Does anyone really know what’s going on it the Senate? Senators would think they like do, but the august body has been stumbling around like a drunken sailor since its imbibing health care tonic. First, it mumbles to itself something about bypassing the House and taking its bill directly to the president. Then, the side of Congress widely considered to be more conservative than said House defeats Ben Nelson’s anti-choice amendment, de-Stupaking the process.
With the dust not yet settled from that tussle, the “gang of ten” Harry Reid convened to work out a compromise between Blue Dogs and Liberals reached a tentative agreement – they’re going to drown the public option like a baby in bathwater. In its place, a so-called “breakthrough” that expands Medicare and Medicaid somewhat, and may increase the medical safety net for those hovering around the poverty line. How long until the Senate starts finding ways to compromise the compromise?
