And it’s about time too. They’ve been talking about it for long enough. No longer content to be kicked around by pro-abolition Notherners, North Westerners, South Westerners and minorities they have finally taken a stand the only way they know how: trying to take down an American hero.
You know that cliche scene in movies, where the fat, corrupt Sheriff with the thick Southern drawl clips the rear tail light of the car with his nightstick, only to inform the driver that ‘You’ve got a tail light out boy’? South Carolina is trying to pull that with a 14 time gold medalist. Stating that if Michael Phelps smoked pot within Richland County, Sheriff Leon Lott says he will charge Phelps with a crime (presumably between spits of tobaccy).
Sheriff Lott, grow up. We live in a society where the slightest indiscretion can cause corporate sponsors to jump ship faster than Confederate soldiers running from a Union charge. I know you’re trying to get some media attention and be the big, bad Sheriff but even Michael’s sponsors are sticking with him. You’re not going to win any points with this stunt, you aren’t going to do anything but outrage people.
I’m not going to get into a dissertation on the merits of marijuana or the benefits of banning it. This isn’t NORML it’s Re:Generator. What I will do is point out once again that Phelps won 14 gold medals for ALL of us, including the backwards rednecks south of the Mason/Dixon line. Yes, all you cousin fuckers get to bask in the shiny gold glory of Phelps’ win too. Stop trying to take that away from him because he’s young and wanted to have fun.
