
New Hampshire became the latest state to legally recognize civil unions today. After signing off on the legislation, Governor John Lynch proudly declared “We in New Hampshire have had a long and proud tradition taking the lead in opposing discrimination. Today that tradition continues.” Well put.
California’s State Assembly, meanwhile, is expected to pass the same-sex marriage bill “the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act” in early June. Unless he’s had a Jimmy Stewart-esque miraculous change of heart, Schwarzenegger will again veto, and may even imagine Gavin Newsom bursting into flames as his pen hits paper.
