Michael Jackson’s untimely demise – sad, right? No matter your opinion of him (and believe me, they run the gamut – this is the manchild sued for child molestation twice, but also the source of some of the 1980s best pop music), the arc of his life was tragic. But that’s all so depressing, and we don’t like to do depressing more than we have to. Which is why we have some potentially wonderful news to share:
Pixies frontman Black Francis has revealed that he is planning to record the band’s first new album since 1991’s ‘Trompe Le Monde’ with a Hollywood film director.
Francis told NME.COM that he would like to work on a film and music tie-in project, but did not rule out recording a standard new album.
Does this mean what Kim Deal said in 2007 no longer applies?
When Rock Daily spoke with Breeders leader and Pixies bassist Kim Deal recently about the Breeders’ April 8th album Mountain Battles, Deal didn’t shy away from talk of a new Pixies record: She says there won’t be one (with her on bass, at least). “Helll no,” she says. “Because I don’t want to.”
Her reasoning? She’s a music fan who doesn’t want to hear new albums from bands she enjoyed years ago.
Because the last thing we need is another Trompe Le Monde, where Deal’s presence on the album could charitably be described as negligible, and the album’s quality could charitably be described as “Frank Black solo-esque”.
